2009 Whitehaven Pinot Gris

Tasting Note

Colour / Appearance:Mild straw.
Aroma / Bouquet:Lifted aromas of almonds and pear drops, with hints of nougat and quince.
Palate:The palate is full, oily and generous with an array of delicate flavours that persist on the long finish.
Cellaring:With careful cellaring our Pinot Gris will gain texture and complexity to augment the varietal characters exhibited by the wine now. However, the wine is already in good balance, and can be enjoyed immediately.
Food Match:Our 2009 Pinot Gris is a drier style, made to be enjoyed best with food. We recommend dishes featuring smoked salmon, mushrooms, poultry or light game. Pasta dishes are also a good match.
Serve:Serve lightly chilled

Residual Sugar:7.4 g/L
Titratable Acidity:6.4 g/L


Climate:The early ripening season was cooler than average, resulting in a late flowering. However, warm dry conditions over budburst and later in the season lead to balanced yields, clean fruit and exceptional flavours.
Vine Management:Vines are trained to three or four canes on a vertical trellis. Balanced pruning, shoot thinning, tucking and trimming are used to achieve an open, healthy canopy and clean fruit.


Winemaking:The fruit was machine harvested in cool evening conditions, and pressed immediately with minimal skin contact. After settling, the clear juice was fermented at very low temperatures with selected yeast strains to preserve the inherent varietals’ flavours. The wine was fermented entirely in stainless steel.
