WHITEHAVEN NAMED NZ PINOT NOIR WINERY OF THE YEAR
07 August 2015:

Whitehaven Wine Company Limited has won Gold for its 2013 Whitehaven Pinot Noir and obtained the coveted title, NZ Pinot Noir Winery of the Year at the prestigious 2015 Melbourne International Wine Competition.

Head Winemaker, Sam Smail and winemaker, Rowan Langdon are thrilled with the result and the fact that Marlborough is now being recognised alongside Central Otago as a source of world class Pinot Noir, and New Zealand winemakers amongst the best in the world.

All grapes for Whitehaven’s Pinot Noir, as with all of its wines, are grown in Marlborough.  Whitehaven has growers at multiple sites across Marlborough’s three sub-regions, the Wairau Valley, Southern Valleys and Awatere Valley.  This enables its winemakers to take advantage of sub-regional differences and the exceptional terroir in Marlborough.

Last year’s, 2012 Pinot Noir won a long list of accolades, including Gold at the 2014 China International Wine & Spirits Competition, Gold at the 2015 Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards, plus Best of Show and Best of Show New Zealand Red awarded at ProWein 2015 in Germany, and Gold at the 2015 Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards.

Whitehaven’s soon to be released 2013 Pinot Noir is off to a strong start.
