WHITEHAVEN Pinot Gris 2012 has been recognised at the country’s pre-eminent wine show, the 2012 Air New Zealand Wine Awards where judges awarded it a Pure Gold Medal.
One of the emerging styles in the Whitehaven portfolio, it offers convincing evidence that Marlborough is a versatile region with the capacity to create exceptional quality aromatic white wines other than Sauvignon Blanc.
‘A Gold Medal ranking vindicates my belief that meticulous viticulture and expressive winemaking can produce an Alsatian style Pinot Gris with global appeal,’ said Managing Director Sue White.
WHITEHAVEN Pinot Gris 2012 is crafted from handpicked parcels of grapes from the estate vineyard and two neighbouring Wairau Valley growers. It displays seductive aromas of preserved pears and quince paste, with a wisp of nougat and dried fig. Full-flavoured and lush with pear and stone fruit flavours, its Alsatian tilt is characterised by an off-dry lingering palate.
