Vintage Update - February 2015
01 February 2015:

Marlborough’s 2015 vintage is shaping up to be another impressive year, thanks to a hot, dry growing season.

Whitehaven Wines senior winemaker Sam Smail says veraison has begun bang on schedule despite a slow start to the season.

“People probably won’t remember because we’ve had such a great summer - but we had some pretty cool weather in December,” he says.

“The warm weather over the summer holidays has brought things forward again, and we’re expecting harvest to start in the last week of March as usual.”

2014 - it's a wrap!

With celebrating our 21st vintage, opening a state-of-the-art winery and winning a string of accolades at international wine shows, 2014 has been a big year for Whitehaven Wines.

Since starting out as a tiny producer in Marlborough in 1994, it’s been a lot of fun and a real privilege to be a part of the amazing New Zealand wine story.

For the past 10 years, the Whitehaven team had been making wine from a converted apple packing shed, so our lovely new winery with all its bells and whistles is a real treat for our hard working crew.

Whitehaven Wins Gold at China Wine and Spirits Awards
29 August 2014:

Whitehaven Wines are pleased to have picked up three medals at the 2014 China Wine and Spirits Awards (CWSA).

The Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013 and Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012 each received a gold medal, while our Marlborough Pinot Gris 2013 was awarded a silver medal.

The CWSA is the biggest and most prestigious wine and spirits competition in China.

Looking Good for Release of 2014 Vintage Wines

After a mostly warm, dry 2014 grape growing season in Marlborough, Whitehaven’s winemakers are excited about the flavours  and aromatics in preliminary tastings of our 2014 wines.

Whitehaven wins at East Meets West
02 June 2014:

The International Eastern Wine Competition, started in 1975, is one of the oldest and longest-running wine competitions in America, while the West Coast Wine Competition, established in 1982, has annually recognized wines produced and bottled in the West.  These two well established wine competitions now go head to head every year in the International 'East Meets West' Wine challenge.   

In this year's competition not only did WHITEHAVEN win GOLD and BEST IN CLASS for our current vintage 2013 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, but went on to be awarded BEST OF SHOW WHITE and BEST OF EAST MEETS

Great results for WHITEHAVEN from the Winestate Magazine Recent Releases Tasting (to be published in the March/ April 2014 edition). The WHITEHAVEN 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and 2013 Noble Riesling were awarded 4.5 Stars, while 4 stars were awarded for the 2012 Pinot Noir and 2013 Riesling.

Top Gold for WHITEHAVEN Riesling

The 2013 Canberra International Riesling Challenge judges assessed nearly 500 global contenders (including a Kiwi contingent) before declaring their standout wines.

Right up there with a Top Gold Medal and 96 Points was the soon to be released very moreish WHITEHAVEN Riesling 2013, the highest pointed entry in the current release Semi-Dry 2013 Vintage Class.
